DESENHANDO UM MAPA

Drawing in territories and creating a (unidentified) map to point out how countries and maps are defined in an arbitrary way. It it is not meant to be a specific territory, more so as to point out how territories are arbitrarily created. How a tool such as drawing can have oppressive underlinings.

It also implies the idea of ‘finding’ territory, very much related to colonisation. Historically, colonisers would (and still) outline territories without considering indigenous people and lands.

This work was made with found black fabric sewed in with yellow thread. Variable sizes (approximately 4m wide).
